A word on AI/LLM

I have attempted to 1. finetune LLM for research topics I'm interested in; 2. use AI to analyze my health data and recognize patterns and hope it would improve my health conditions.

  1. Copiloting has been disruptive (in a bad way) to my software engineering projects and interferes with my system thinking.

  2. I lost both my intricate thinking and bird eye views when I ask AI to summarize/draw connections for me, from philosophy, to computer science. (Right now AI is not that 'good' in Maths and Econ)

  3. Relying on AI insights and pattern recognition of health data makes me myopic and lose holistic view on health, and

As an engineer, I aim to 'do it right' by consistent design principles that make sure the system is robust and sustainable. But as I try to build in the AI sphere today, all I experience is fragmentation and an overall patchwork tendency (e.g., RLHF, RAG...) Optimization shouldn't be based on a bad direction, e.g., graph for RAG.

I think the fundamental reason is what we use AI for is in the wrong direction. It is the product of profit-maximizing market, instead of utility/welfare maximizing market. That's why people are forced to be generalists, and economy is always on a 'hype', while the right structure should be that labor is optimized when everyone specializes in his/her natural talent, and economy is built on real output or credit. Not everything on the internet is the truth, but the internet offers us a way/a bridge to seek the truth. And the point of education is to equip us with the mindset to sift through these information. I support connectivity, the web and networks, but I'm against ubiquitous AI embedding to entrench a vicious cycle.
